1940 Western Union began as a family business in Calgary. One of the premier property and casualty companies in Western Canada, they became a part of ING in 1988 and are currently known as ING Western Union.
1955 Belair Insurance Company joined ING in 1989, after more than 30 years in business. The site of BELAIRdirect was launched in 1995 and is recognised today as the first North American insurer to sell insurance over the Internet.
1988 ING Novex was established as Canadian Group Underwriters - a national company that specialises in home and auto insurance for members of employer groups, associations and affinity groups. Novex joined ING in 1999.
1997 ING Bank of Canada, Canada's leading virtual bank, began offering banking products and services over the phone and through the Internet.
2000 ING Funds began offering its own mutual funds in Canada.
2001 ING Wealth Management Inc. was established as a registered mutual fund dealer to offer various investment products and services.
2001 ING Insurance and Zurich Insurance formed a strategic alliance to integrate their products, services and distribution networks in Canada. Under the terms of the alliance, ING acquired Zurich's Canadian personal and group home and car insurance operations.
